Stockport's Krazy Races is set to return this weekend, featuring a soapbox derby, classic cars, and a RAF flypast. The event, now in its fourth year, will take place on Sunday, August 9, from 11am to 5pm, with the course opening at 10.45am.
What to expect at Krazy Races 2026
The main attraction is the soapbox derby, where up to 40 teams will compete on a 350m course filled with chicanes, obstacles, and water splashes. The event is free to attend and is considered one of the UK's largest touring soapbox derbies.
This year's event will also include a classic car showcase from the Italian Auto Moto Club and a special flypast by a RAF aircraft from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight. The flypast is scheduled for around 2.45pm, but is weather permitting and could change.
Race schedule and road closures
For racers, teams arrive at 8.30am, with a drivers' briefing at 10am. The opening ceremony is at 10.45am, racing runs from 11am to 1pm and 2pm to 4pm, followed by the top seven final at 4pm and trophy presentation at 4.30pm.
Road closures will be in place from 4am to 9pm, with diversions signed. Affected roads include Mersey Square, Chestergate, Rock Row, Piccadilly, St Peters Square, St Petersgate, Duke Street, Great Underbank, Bridge Street, and Lower Hillgate. The taxi rank outside Stockport Interchange will be closed, with alternatives near Stockport Rail Station and Asda.
