Everton academy product Harvey Foster described his first-team debut as "the stuff of dreams" after scoring in a 4-0 pre-season victory over Dundee at Dens Park. The 19-year-old midfielder came on as a second-half substitute and capped his appearance with a sharp first-time finish from outside the box, intercepting a clearance from the Dundee goalkeeper.
Foster Reflects on Milestone Afternoon
"It was good. It was a stadium full of fans and with the first team - it is the stuff of dreams. And then to score is just an add-on," Foster told reporters. "I wasn't sure if I was going to be with them at the start of the week, I'm very grateful."
Foster had played for the Under-21s in a 2-1 defeat to Oldham Athletic on Friday and learned that night he would join the senior squad for the trip to Scotland. "I'm just happy to contribute… As long as it contributes to the team winning, that's the main thing," he added.
David Moyes' Support for Youngsters
The midfielder praised manager David Moyes for his attention to the academy players who stepped up, including Malik Olayiwola, Braiden Graham, George Finney, Will Tamen, Eli Campbell, and Joel Catesby. "He's been great. Honestly, the set up with me and the lads, I know we have only been with him a short time but every one of the U21s that have been up, he's spoken to us, talked to us about our game and it has been really good," Foster said.
Loan Move Possible but Focus Remains
Foster is likely to be considered for a loan move this summer, but his immediate aim is to stay in Moyes' plans. "That is definitely the hope. Obviously it is down to the manager, I will just keep working hard, doing my best and then seeing what comes of it," he stated.
