The Celebrity Traitors returns to BBC One this week, with 21 celebrities entering the 19th century Ardross Castle in the Scottish Highlands. The property, which serves as the show's primary filming location, is a private venue but can be hired out for weddings, and its popularity has soared since becoming a recognisable feature of the programme.
Castle History and Ownership
Ardross Castle, located north of Inverness, was built more than 170 years ago in a Scottish baronial style. The estate was initially bought by Sir Alexander Matheson, an MP and key figure in building railways in the Highlands. About 400 workers were involved in the construction of the grand structure.
In 1983, the castle was purchased by the McTaggart family, who still own it today. The property features stunning interiors, formal gardens, and 100 acres of parkland on the banks of the River Alness.
Filming Locations and Wedding Hire
Contestants spend most of their time in various locations around the castle, including the library with leather armchairs, the drawing room with green tartan wallpaper, and the infamous Round Table room where voting takes place. The bedrooms and private suites can be made available for bridal parties, and wedding ceremonies can be held indoors or outdoors in the castle grounds.
Fans of the show cannot visit the castle as it is a private venue, but wedding hire is possible. The Celebrity Traitors airs Thursday, October 1 at 8pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
