Merseyside tips cut winter hours from today

All 16 household waste recycling centres across Merseyside and Halton have moved to reduced winter opening hours from today, Thursday, October 1. The new timetable sees sites in Merseyside open from 8am until 5pm, while those in Halton will operate from 8am until 6pm.

Seasonal change ahead of darker evenings

The change, announced by Merseyside Recycling and Waste Authority (MRWA), replaces the summer schedule of 8am to 8pm and is timed to coincide with shorter daylight hours over the coming months. All 16 centres in the Liverpool City Region are operated by Veolia on behalf of the authority.

Lesley Worswick, chief executive of MRWA, said: “We shorten the hours over the winter to coincide with the darker nights over the forthcoming months.

What can be recycled

The recycling centres accept a range of household materials, including batteries, cans, cardboard, garden clippings, glass bottles, wood, and white goods. Every site also has dedicated “disposable vape” bins to provide safe disposal and recycling routes for the millions of vapes currently thrown away across the country.

Householders can check www.recycleright.org.uk for details of what can be accepted at their local site.
