Cardiff Arms Park to Host New Global Rugby Sevens Event

Cardiff Arms Park will host a leg of the new Ultimate Sevens rugby sevens tournament on September 12, 2026, as part of a four-venue global series. The competition, launching in September, features six franchise clubs with men's and women's teams competing over four weekends.

Tournament Structure and Venues

The inaugural season kicks off on September 5 at Estadio Ontime Butarque in Leganés, Madrid. After Cardiff, the tournament moves to Parc des Sports Aguilera in Biarritz, France, on September 18, and concludes at Brentford's Gtech Community Stadium on September 24, where the overall winners will be crowned.

Marquee Players and Teams

Ultimate Sevens has already confirmed a first group of 16 marquee players, including top talents from the sevens circuit such as Maddi Levi, Manu Moreno, Henry Hutchison, and Abbie Brown. A player draft for the six teams is expected to be announced soon, along with additional marquee player signings.

Vision for the Championship

Barney Pascall, managing director of Ultimate Sevens, stated: “The announcement of our inaugural season feels very special. These four cities give us an incredible balance of rugby heritage and emerging markets, each a platform to launch a Championship that is fast, global, inclusive and built around the athletes and fans that make sevens so special.” He added that the venues were chosen for their community connections and ability to deliver a first-class fan experience.
