Arsenal Target Elijah Upson in Potential Tottenham Swoop

Arsenal could reportedly sting Tottenham by completing a contentious summer deal for the son of their former defender, Matthew Upson. Elijah Upson, an 18-year-old centre-back, is set to depart Tottenham at the end of the month after more than a decade at the club.

Elijah Upson's Background

Matthew Upson made 57 appearances across six seasons for Arsenal during his playing days before representing Birmingham City and West Ham in the Premier League. The former defender also earned 21 caps for England before retiring in 2016. His son, Elijah, has progressed through Tottenham's academy system after joining the club at age seven and has confirmed his departure once his contract expires.

Arsenal's Interest

According to The Athletic, Arsenal have registered their interest in Upson Jr. The 18-year-old would arrive on a free transfer, representing a move for the future as Arsenal consistently scour the nation for emerging talent.

Additional Transfer Targets

Arsenal have also targeted another gifted teenager this summer by launching a move for Leicester City winger Jeremy Monga. The 16-year-old has attracted several Premier League admirers after breaking into Leicester's first-team fold. The Foxes are keen to retain Monga following their relegation from the Championship, but The Mirror reported over the weekend that Arsenal are leading the race to secure his signature when he turns 17 next month.

In addition, Arsenal are pursuing more experienced attacking reinforcements and maintain a keen interest in Aston Villa's Morgan Rogers. The attacking midfielder is not short of elite suitors and is currently at the World Cup with England. Bradley Barcola and Christos Tzolis are also under consideration as Arsenal look to strengthen the left-hand side of their attack.
