Roberto De Zerbi has revealed that Tottenham are closing in on signing a new attacker as he insisted the club’s summer spending spree is not over.
Record spending spree
Spurs have already lavished around £237million on six new signings during the current transfer window, with Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes and Jan Paul van Hecke all making the move to north London.
De Zerbi’s squad has also been bolstered by the arrivals of free transfers Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi and Martin Dubravka, but the Italian says Spurs remain in the market for new players.
Interest in Savinho
Standard Sport understands that Tottenham hold an interest in Manchester City winger Savinho, with the Brazilian reportedly informing City earlier this week of his desire to leave in search of regular minutes.
Attacking reinforcements are the priority for Spurs up until the end of the transfer window, and De Zerbi has hinted that the club are close to securing a deal for a new forward.
De Zerbi's 'shark' approach
"In the transfer market, when I want one player, I become like a shark. No chance to say no," De Zerbi told football.london.
"The transfer market, it's not finished for sure, but we completed 60 per cent of our project in the transfer market. Now we have another bomba."
Asked whether a deal was close, De Zerbi said there were still things to be finalised but that he hoped to have negotiations wrapped up soon.
"I hope, but it's not finished for sure," the Spurs boss continued.
Winger priority
Spurs are in the market for a winger, and potentially another striker before the transfer window shuts on September 1.
Savinho ranks highly on their list of targets - which was compiled during negotiations between De Zerbi and sporting director Johan Lange in March - due to his directness and ability to get in behind the opposition defence.
The main priority for De Zerbi, though, is to sign a winger who can get the best out of the club’s full-backs.
"No two players are the same," he said. "A winger can be a very wide winger, one able to come inside, a winger without a full-back, a winger able to play with the full-back."
"We have four great full-backs at the moment, maybe the four most important full-backs in the world, because I think Pedro Porro is the best right-back in the world, with [Destiny] Udogie, Robertson, and Djed Spence can play right and left."
"Before bringing in a winger, we have to consider the full-back, because we start from the full-back, from the player we already have, no?"
