Nicki Minaj has responded after a key Donald Trump aide suggested she could become his new press secretary after the President commented on her 'beautiful a**'. The 'Super Bass' singer was pictured chatting to Steven Cheung, the White House director of communications, on Sunday, October 25. Mr Cheung posted a clip of the interaction on X with the caption: "Ladies and gentlemen, I think we may have found the new White House Press Secretary!" Ms Minaj then replied with an American flag and sweating emoji.
Rally Appearance and Trump's Comments
On the same day, the 'Anaconda' hit-maker appeared at a campaign rally alongside Trump to drum up support for Republicans in the upcoming midterm elections. Before the 43-year-old Trinidadian took to the stage, Trump commented on her appearance. He told the rally in Port Huron, Michigan: "By the way, look at one hell of a beautiful a** before… Nicki Minaj. That's hard to miss."
After the crowd cheered, the President added: "Stand up. That's hard to miss. I hope Nicki was not insulted but we love Nicki. She has been with us for a long time."
Minaj's Support and Polling Context
Minaj later went on stage to talk up the President's economic record. Polls suggest the Republicans are heading for losses on November 3, with 61 percent of voters saying they disapprove of the President at the time. While 38 percent say they do, a majority of the electorate also said they would prefer a Democrat-controlled Congress over a Republican-held Capitol.
If the Democrats did score a big win, they would be able to frustrate the President's legislative agenda and block bills.
Press Secretary Vacancy
Trump is in need of a new press secretary after Katie Zachaira was reportedly sacked from the role after only five days, the shortest term for any White House press secretary. Her only media briefing lasted for around 15 minutes.
