In a landmark move for the rapidly growing sport, teenage pickleball phenomenon Anna Leigh Waters has secured a historic sponsorship, becoming the first-ever athlete in her discipline to sign with global sportswear titan Nike.
A Dream Realised with the Swoosh
The 18-year-old American, who holds the world number one ranking in women's singles, doubles, and mixed doubles simultaneously, will now serve as a global ambassador for pickleball under the Nike banner. Her role will involve promoting the company's performance apparel and footwear on the international stage.
"Growing up, I watched my idols wear the Swoosh in their biggest moments, so joining the Nike family is a dream realised," Waters stated in an announcement covered by CNBC. She added, "Nike is the gold standard in performance and I can’t wait to step onto the court representing a brand that believes in the same relentless pursuit of greatness that drives me every day."
Record-Breaking Success Paves the Way
This lucrative partnership follows Waters' departure from a previous deal with Fila, which expired in 2025. Her free agency allowed her to align with one of Fila's most powerful competitors.
The deal caps off an extraordinary period for the young athlete. The year 2025 was a record-breaking one for Waters, during which she amassed a staggering 181 gold medals and achieved 39 career 'triple crowns' – winning the singles, doubles, and mixed doubles titles at the same event.
Her prodigious talent was evident from a very young age. Waters turned professional in 2019 at just 12 years old, making her the youngest pro player in the sport's history. Seven years on, she stands as the undisputed top women's player globally and now pickleball's pioneering Nike athlete.
Building a Multi-Million Pound Brand
The Nike agreement is not the only significant business move Waters has made recently. Earlier this month, the Florida native also switched paddle sponsors, signing a deal with Franklin Sports.
Her portfolio of endorsements is extensive and impressive for an athlete of her age, already including partnerships with major brands such as Delta Air Lines, DoorDash, and Ulta Beauty. Combined with her earnings from the United Pickleball Association, Waters is estimated to make around $2 million annually.
Fans will get their first look at Waters' new Nike kit in action this week, as she is set to debut the apparel and footwear at the Carvana Masters tournament in Rancho Mirage, California.
