James Forrest Urges Celtic to Keep Callum McGregor Amid Transfer Speculation
Forrest Pleads for McGregor to Stay at Celtic

James Forrest has called on Celtic to do everything possible to keep Callum McGregor at the club, amid mounting speculation over the captain's future. McGregor, 33, recently switched to the same agency group as former manager Brendan Rodgers, reigniting rumours of a potential move to Saudi Arabia.

McGregor's Agency Switch Fuels Exit Talk

McGregor changed his representation to Unique Sports Group, the agency that also represents Rodgers. The midfielder had previously warned Celtic that he could leave unless the club matched his ambition. The move has led to intense speculation that he could reunite with Rodgers in the Middle East.

Forrest: McGregor's Leadership Is Vital

Speaking from Celtic's pre-season training camp in the Algarve, Forrest emphasised McGregor's importance both on and off the pitch. "Obviously, he's the captain, but everybody really does respect him, and he does lead. It's just the way he trains, the way he plays and I think that's really important," Forrest said. "He's respected by the club high up as well. He does his job unbelievably, so it's really important to keep a guy like him here."

Forrest, the most decorated Celt in history, noted that McGregor remains hungry for success. "He just wants the best for the club and what he's done for the club has been unbelievable and he's still hungry for more, he keeps wanting more. He's started off really good in pre-season, so it'd be good to keep him."

New Signings Could Sway McGregor

McGregor could be persuaded to stay if Celtic strengthen their squad this summer. The club has already signed Colombian striker Camilo Duran for £6 million from Qarabag. Duran scored five goals in last season's Champions League, including strikes against Newcastle, Ajax, Benfica and Eintracht Frankfurt.

Forrest welcomed the arrival of new players, saying it pushes existing squad members to improve. "I remember Rodgers saying the first time he came in, especially like me in my position, they would always be signing players. But I think it pushes the lads that are here onto a new level as well," he said.

Duran Impresses in Training

Duran joined his new teammates in Portugal this week and has already made an impression. Forrest said: "He trained with us today. Aye, he looks good. He's going to be a good player, he looks like a good athlete, he looks quick. So it's exciting."

Forrest believes competition for places benefits the team. "If somebody comes in and pushes them to try to get it, it takes you to a new level. I think I've experienced that with myself and a lot of the lads over the years."
