Manchester United are still awaiting official word from Barcelona on whether they will trigger the £26 million clause to make Marcus Rashford's loan move permanent. The La Liga champions have until June 15 to decide, but reports suggest they are expected to decline the option.
Rashford, 28, spent the 2025/26 season at Camp Nou, scoring 14 goals and providing 14 assists in 47 appearances. He helped Barcelona secure a second consecutive Spanish top-flight title. However, the club's recent £69.3 million signing of Anthony Gordon from Newcastle has cast doubt on a permanent move for the England international.
According to sources, no official communication has taken place between the clubs. Barcelona insist a decision will be made before the deadline next week, but United have made clear they will not renegotiate the terms. Those close to Rashford believe the deadline will pass without an agreement, leaving him to return to Old Trafford for pre-season.
Rashford's future may be decided during the World Cup, where he could attract interest from rival clubs. Arsenal and Bayern Munich have been linked, and United are keen to sell to raise funds. If no suitor emerges during the tournament, his fate is expected to be settled in the three-week window between England's exit and the start of pre-season.
United head coach Michael Carrick, who shares a strong bond with Rashford, said in April that no definitive decision had been made. "There are decisions to be made in time on certain things. Marcus is in that situation," Carrick stated. "At this point in time, nothing has been decided."
