Tennis Australia has announced a record prize pool of $111.5 million for this year's Australian Open, a 16% increase on last year. The boost places the tournament ahead of Wimbledon, which offered $108 million in 2025, but behind the US Open's $134 million.
The winners of the men's and women's singles will each receive $4.15 million, up 19% from $3.5 million in 2025. Players who lose in qualifying will take home at least $40,500, a 16% increase. Tennis Australia has also increased travel assistance by 67% and introduced welfare initiatives.
Chief executive Craig Tiley said: 'This 16% increase demonstrates our commitment to supporting tennis careers at every level. From boosting qualifying prize money by 55% since 2023, to enhancing player benefits, we're ensuring professional tennis is sustainable for all competitors.'
The expanded purse follows a surge in Tennis Australia's revenue to $693 million in the year to September 2025, up $102 million on the previous period. The increase is attributed to commercial, government and broadcast partnerships, as well as ticket sales. A new broadcast deal with Channel Nine, reportedly worth $80 million annually, began in 2024.
Tennis Australia's expenses rose to $681 million, leaving a net surplus of $15.8 million, up from $7.4 million in 2024. The organisation has also increased its investment in sport and entertainment technology ventures, with acquisitions rising to $66.1 million from $20.7 million.
Tensions over player pay and conditions continue, with Tennis Australia and the Professional Tennis Players' Association reportedly in settlement discussions following an antitrust lawsuit. Meanwhile, compensation for senior executives, including Tiley, rose to $11.1 million, up 7% from the previous year.
