Jannik Sinner successfully defended his Wimbledon title on Sunday, defeating Alexander Zverev 6-7, 7-6, 6-3, 6-4 in a grueling three-hour-46-minute final. The world No.1 jokingly called out his mother, Siglinde, who left Centre Court several times during the match because she could not bear the pressure.
Sinner's Mother Walks Out During Final
Speaking in his on-court winner's speech, Sinner said: "My mum, I see her, she left the stadium a couple of times. Being a player it's not easy, you know?" The crowd laughed as he thanked his team and praised Zverev's performance.
Sinner's victory marked his fifth Grand Slam title and his second consecutive Wimbledon crown, following in the footsteps of Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, and Carlos Alcaraz. He collapsed onto the turf in celebration after securing his ninth straight win over Zverev.
Zverev's Heartfelt Response
Runner-up Alexander Zverev, who won his first major at the French Open last month, joked: "Jannik, I don't really like you anymore. I lost to you nine times in a row." He added: "He showed once again why he's the best player in the world."
Zverev, 29, reached his first Wimbledon final after never advancing past the quarter-finals before. He thanked the crowd for their support, saying: "I never felt support like that in Wimbledon before."
Princess Kate Attends Final
Princess Kate, the Princess of Wales, presented the trophies and congratulated both players. Zverev acknowledged the Royal Box, calling it "a massive honour to play in this court."
Sinner concluded: "You [the fans] are the reason. There is no better place honestly to play tennis, standing here. You can feel the nerves on the Sunday morning when you wake up."
