A Romanian football legend has accused Scotland of football snobbery for refusing to call up league star player Danny Armstrong.
The former Kilmarnock winger bagged the division's Player of the Month gong after firing Dinamo Bucharest to the top of the table with four goals and ten assists in 11 games. And now he is set to trigger a new contract as the capital club chase a first league title in two decades.
But he wasn't under consideration for Sebastien Pocognoli's first national squad selection as the Scots' Nations League campaign got off to a rocky start with one win, a draw and two defeats against Slovenia, Switzerland and North Macedonia, respectively.
Romanian legend hits out at Scotland
Now former Benfica and Porto star and current TV analyst Basarab Panduru has hit out at Scotland for snubbing Armstrong, who turned 29 at the weekend.
The former Steaua Bucharest sports director said: "Danny Armstrong has not been called up to the Scottish national team because he plays in the Romanian Super League.
"Armstrong is very good for our league, he's an excellent player and raises the standard.
"But I think it's beneath the dignity of the Scots to call up a player from Romania.
"I watched him at the weekend and he was unhappy at being substituted, but they have some crazy guys in the Scottish national team too!
"My advice to him is to hang in there because he will surely get a call-up soon."
Advice for Armstrong
Panduru's comments come after Armstrong's strong start to the season with Dinamo Bucharest, who are chasing their first league title in 20 years.
The winger's performances have raised questions about Scotland's selection policy, with the national team struggling in their Nations League campaign.
