Manchester United are planning to sign at least three more players before the summer transfer window closes, according to reports, after completing two deals worth a combined £85 million.
Confirmed Signings and Targets
On Monday, United secured their first official signing of the summer, agreeing a £50 million deal with Chelsea for Brazilian midfielder Andrey Santos. Goalkeeper Karl Darlow also joined on a free transfer shortly after his contract at Leeds United expired.
Aston Villa midfielder Youri Tielemans has emerged as a primary target, with the Belgium international reportedly having a £35 million release clause in his contract. The pursuit of Tielemans comes amid uncertainty over Atalanta's Ederson, whom United had previously agreed to sign for £35 million plus £3.8 million in add-ons. However, Atalanta director Cristiano Giuntoli stated: "We were stunned [by Man United calling Ederson deal off]. Now we are working on a new contract for him."
Further Reinforcements Planned
According to The Sun, once a deal for Tielemans is completed, United will seek to bring in another midfielder, a left winger, and a forward. This would bring the total number of new arrivals to six ahead of their return to Champions League football. However, the report also suggests that United could "pause" further incomings after wrapping up a deal for Tielemans while they weigh up options and push through departures.
Pre-Season Preparations
United's pre-season schedule begins this week with a friendly against Wrexham in Finland on Saturday, followed by matches against Rosenborg in Norway, Atletico Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain in Sweden, and Leeds in Dublin. The new Premier League season kicks off on August 22 with an away fixture against newly-promoted Hull City.
