Manchester United have reportedly agreed personal terms with Mateus Fernandes, moving ahead of Tottenham in the race to sign the West Ham midfielder. The Portugal youngster, currently representing his nation at the 2026 World Cup, is expected to leave the Hammers this summer following their relegation to the Championship.
West Ham demanding £80m for Fernandes
West Ham signed Fernandes last summer from Southampton in a deal worth around £38 million, and are said to want double that figure to sell 12 months later. According to talkSPORT, Fernandes has agreed personal terms with Man Utd ahead of a summer move to Old Trafford. United will now look to reach an agreement with West Ham, who are expected to command a fee close to £80 million.
Tottenham and Arsenal also interested
Tottenham are reportedly the strongest rivals to United for Fernandes, while Arsenal were said to be monitoring the Portuguese midfielder, but their interest is not expected to advance. Spurs, however, are reportedly ahead of United in the race to sign Newcastle’s Sandro Tonali for a similar fee. United had made Tonali a key target, but it is Spurs who are said to be the frontrunners for the Italian midfielder.
United active in transfer market
United have already reportedly secured a deal for Ederson, with the midfielder passing a medical ahead of a £38 million move from Atalanta. Fernandes would become one of United’s marquee signings of the summer as they move into pole position to secure one of Europe’s most promising youngsters.
