A murder investigation has been launched by Gwent Police after a 56-year-old man died following violent disorder near Pontypool. Anthony Jones, known as Tony, from Brecon, died in hospital after sustaining life-threatening injuries.
Police were called to a report of violent disorder involving a group of men in Mill Street at around 7.15pm on Thursday, August 6. Three men were taken to hospital, with two initially described as critically injured.
Arrests Made
Seven men, aged 31, 39, 40, 45, 59, 61, and 73, have been arrested in connection with the disorder. All seven remain in police custody. Mr Jones's family are being supported by specialist officers.

Detective Superintendent Laura Bartley, senior investigating officer, said: "We recognise that reports of this nature will cause concern in our community, but we have officers working around the clock conducting enquiries as part of the investigation."
"We're trying to establish the movements of those involved both before and after the disorder and are asking motorists who were driving along Hospital Road, Mill Road and the surrounding areas between 6pm and 9pm on Thursday to check their dashcam footage."

On Friday morning, a police cordon remained in place at Mill Road and Hospital Road while investigations continued. Forensic officers were working at the scene, placing evidence markers outside Pontnewynydd sports and social club.
