Harry Kane has moved to allay fears of an injury after the England captain was spotted with strapping on his calf following Wednesday’s win over Croatia.
Skipper Kane scored twice in Dallas as the Three Lions saw off Croatia in their opening World Cup game, running out 4-2 winners with Jude Bellingham and Marcus Rashford providing the third and fourth goals.
Joyous scenes in Dallas and across the pond would have been quelled slightly by the sight of Kane more than once going down and clutching the back of his leg and ankle late in the game.
Kane was able to play the full 90 minutes but was sporting strapping to his left leg as he greeted family members in the stands after the game.
The striker suffered a calf injury late in the domestic season for Bayern Munich but returned before the end of the campaign.
Speaking after the game, Kane said of his fitness: “Physically, I am feeling good. The goals I have scored this year are the most I have ever had in my career, I feel I am at the peak of my powers at the right time.
“There is a long way to go, a lot of tough games ahead, but for me personally I enjoy being out there on the pitch when I am feeling in this form.
“Recover now and get ready for the next game.”
England flew back to their Kansas City base following the game and are scheduled to train later on Thursday.
Head coach Thomas Tuchel will be doubly relieved after Declan Rice also dismissed fears over his fitness.
The Arsenal midfielder was replaced by Morgan Rogers with just under 20 minutes left to play and did not appear to be moving comfortably as he returned to the substitutes’ bench.
But, speaking to ITV after the game, Rice declared he was “all good, good as gold”, adding: “Just what I’ve been nursing, probably, in the second half of the season at Arsenal, little neural pains here and there.
“But yeah, I’m all good, I’m all fine, just precaution and I’ll be back out there again against Ghana.”
