Deeney Names Team to Knock England Out of World Cup

Troy Deeney has cast doubt on England's chances of winning the World Cup, predicting that Argentina will knock them out in the semi-finals. The former Premier League striker believes the Three Lions have not shown enough quality in the tournament to end their 60-year wait for glory.

England's Quarter-Final Clash with Norway

England are preparing for a quarter-final against Norway after a dramatic 3-2 win over co-hosts Mexico, despite being reduced to ten men. Norway, who beat Ivory Coast and stunned five-time winners Brazil, pose a significant threat. Deeney acknowledges Norway's strengths, noting their organization and fearlessness.

"It's going to be tough because we've struggled to break down well-organised low block teams," Deeney told The Sun. "They're a big team, so they're not going to be afraid of set pieces. In fact, they're going to try to impose themselves. Theirs is a together team, a team that has no fear, because every time they're just making history. And they've got that fella [Erling Haaland] up front."

Deeney's Criticism of England's Performances

Deeney expressed disappointment with England's displays under Thomas Tuchel, despite their unbeaten run. "England haven't dominated one period of any game," he said. "My wife said to me the other day, that every time I speak about England, I sound like I hate them. I don't, I just have an expectation. It's about what I'm told and what I see. We were told by Thomas Tuchel, we were going to be front footed and we were going to see a real different England. I haven't seen that yet in this tournament."

He added: "Every single game I've watched, I've been left with more questions. I don't subscribe to the theory that because England won, we're going to win the World Cup."

Argentina Loom as Semi-Final Threat

Deeney expects England to beat Norway but sees Argentina as a major obstacle in the semi-finals. Argentina, the defending champions, mounted a stunning comeback from 2-0 down against Egypt in the last 16. They face Switzerland in the quarter-finals. "I'm expecting us to win but at the moment I'd still fancy Argentina to beat us in the semi-final if we both get there. It's time we put a performance together," Deeney said.

England are fourth-favourites to win the World Cup, behind Argentina, Spain, and France. France, on the other side of the draw, are considered the top contenders.
