Chelsea are reportedly prepared to sell Alejandro Garnacho this summer after the winger failed to attend pre-season training under new manager Xabi Alonso. The 22-year-old, who joined from Manchester United for £40 million in August 2025, was absent from the first session at Cobham on Friday, July 10, 2026.
Garnacho's absence raises questions
All players not involved in the 2026 World Cup were expected to report for training, including England star Cole Palmer. However, Garnacho, who was left out of Argentina's World Cup squad after a disappointing debut season at Chelsea, did not appear. The club declined to comment on his absence, according to the Daily Mail. Unless it is injury-related, the no-show strongly suggests the Argentine is not part of Alonso's plans.
Price tag set for summer exit
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports that Chelsea are demanding €50 million (£42.6 million) to sell Garnacho to a foreign club. For a Premier League rival, the price rises to £45 million. Roma are the only club with concrete interest so far. Garnacho managed just one goal and four assists in 24 Premier League appearances last season, starting only one of Chelsea's final 12 games as they finished 10th and lost the FA Cup final to Manchester City.
Busy summer at Stamford Bridge
Chelsea have already sold Marc Cucurella to Real Madrid and Tyrique George to Everton, while Andrey Santos is set to join Manchester United for £50 million. Garnacho, who described his move to Chelsea as 'incredible' last summer, is now open to leaving the club.
