White House adviser Andrew Giuliani has publicly declared his support for England to win the 2026 FIFA World Cup, expressing a desire to see the Three Lions lift the trophy on American soil during the nation's 250th anniversary celebrations. Giuliani, executive director of the White House Task Force on the FIFA World Cup 2026, made the remarks as England prepare to face Argentina in the semi-finals.
Giuliani Backs England's World Cup Hopes
Speaking to the Daily Mail, Giuliani said: "You know, if the United States can't win on our 250th birthday, then a great storyline would be the English coming to America and winning during our anniversary celebrations." He added: "It's been 60 years of hurt, I gather, for England, so that would be a beautiful victory for them if they won the tournament. I do absolutely think England can go all the way, they are one of the top teams left now."
England, managed by Thomas Tuchel, have not won a World Cup since 1966. The team must overcome Argentina to reach the final, where they would face either Spain or France. Giuliani expressed confidence in key players Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham, noting: "Harry Kane is the number one goal scorer for the England team, and if they are going to win the tournament, he will be the main reason. He is one of the main players on the team, and he and Jude Bellingham are fine athletes."
Trump's Connection to England Captain
England captain Harry Kane is a known favourite of US President Donald Trump, who is scheduled to participate in the trophy presentation on Sunday. Trump has previously called Kane a "great player" and a "great guy" on social media. The pair played a round of golf together in 2024 after Trump invited Kane during his stay in Palm Beach, Florida. Kane recalled: "I played all right to be honest, but 18 months ago he invited me to play when I was down in Palm Beach. So, when the president invites you somewhere, it was a pretty surreal experience just to meet him and obviously play golf with him." He added: "His golf is pretty good to be honest with you. I hope I can play golf as good as him when I'm his age, that's for sure. A unique experience, but I was just grateful that he invited me to play."
England's Path to Glory
Giuliani described England as "an exceedingly well-balanced team" and urged confidence in their potential. The United States were eliminated earlier in the tournament, leaving Giuliani to adopt England as his preferred remaining side. England's semi-final against Argentina is scheduled for the coming days, with the final set for next weekend. If England win, it would be their first World Cup triumph in 60 years.
