Dominik Szoboszlai is edging closer to signing a new long-term contract with Liverpool, though a full agreement has not yet been reached. The Reds opened negotiations with the Hungary international's representatives earlier this year, aiming to extend his commitment at Anfield and reward his progress since arriving from RB Leipzig for £60 million three years ago.
Negotiations Resume and Progress
Talks resumed a few weeks back between the two parties, and the Liverpool ECHO understands that significant progress has been made. While nothing has been signed yet, the expectation is that Szoboszlai, who has two years remaining on his current deal, will soon put pen to paper on an improved long-term contract.
Boost for New Head Coach Andoni Iraola
The development will be a major boost for new Liverpool head coach Andoni Iraola as he assesses his squad ahead of his first campaign in charge. There are question marks over several midfielders: Ryan Gravenberch signed a six-year contract earlier this year, but Curtis Jones has entered the last 12 months of his deal, and Wataru Endo is poised to become a free agent next summer.
Similar to Szoboszlai, Alexis Mac Allister is in the last two years of his contract, but no talks have been held over a new deal amid continued speculation of interest from Real Madrid.
