Adam Ramsay-Peaty has criticised his performance after securing bronze in the 50m breaststroke at the Commonwealth Games, claiming his training output is not reflected in his results. He finished third in a time of 26.94 seconds, 0.44 behind winner Sam Williamson of Australia. The result came days after he also settled for bronze in the 100m breaststroke, a drop for the former dominant champion.
Frustration with performances
"I am working way too hard. If those results were how much I am working then they would be a lot better," he said. "I need to look at that and adjust course because we are sailing in some rough seas right now and it is not sustainable. I have come back from worse and we will see where we end up."
The 31-year-old admitted the 50m event offered a better chance given the shorter distance, but still fell short. He had previously been tearful after the 100m bronze on Saturday.
Life changes and coaching shift
Since dominating the sport, Ramsay-Peaty has undergone significant personal changes. He married Holly Ramsay, who is pregnant with his second child; his first child, George, is from a previous relationship. His long-time coach Mel Marshall relocated to Australia in 2024, prompting a move to London to work under Lisa Bates.
"It is hard work, but we need to make sure that hard work is going in the right place," he said. "These things don't happen in three months; they happen in two years and we need to make sure we keep investing."
Olympic ambition
Despite the setbacks, Ramsay-Peaty remains determined to compete at the Olympics in Los Angeles in four years. He expressed confusion over his form: "I thought I could have done better there. It is quite disappointing in terms of the time, and, as we know, times equal medals. I felt I could have been a little quicker, but I need to look at it and see where it is going on because nothing makes sense this week to be honest."
