Emma Raducanu has raised serious concerns over her Wimbledon fitness after cutting short a practice session on Saturday. The British No. 1 had scheduled two training sessions on Saturday - first hitting at Aorangi Park before playing a practice set with Anna Kalinskaya on Court 3.
Practice Session Cut Short
However, Raducanu found herself 4-0 down before signalling to bring proceedings to an early close, vacating the court approximately 10 minutes ahead of schedule. Kalinskaya pressed on with her own training drills.
The development follows reports that the 23-year-old had been spotted wearing a protective boot earlier in the week. Saturday's sessions were her first on-site practice since Monday, and her right ankle was visibly strapped during both.
Press Conference Cancelled
Raducanu had been expected to speak to the press on Saturday afternoon at the All England Club. Yet, roughly 20 minutes after departing that practice session, her scheduled press conference was called off and moved to Sunday.
The No. 30 seed has been drawn against world No. 60 Antonia Ruzic in the first round, with the pair slotted into the opening match on Court 1 at 1pm on Monday - approximately 48 hours after that curtailed training session.
Recent Injury Concerns
Raducanu is believed to have been managing a niggle following her recent run to the Queen's Club final. The 23-year-old spent over two months on the sidelines with a post-viral illness before returning to the tour in May, where she suffered defeats in two clay-court matches.
She subsequently reached the final at the WTA 500 tournament at London's Queen's Club earlier this month. Due to rain delays, Raducanu contested three matches within 28 hours, representing a big increase in load following months on the sidelines.
Withdrawal from Recent Tournaments
Raducanu withdrew from the Nottingham Open the following week, citing a change in schedule. She also declined a wildcard entry into this week's Eastbourne Open, opting instead for a practice week in preparation for Wimbledon.
However, she did not train at the All England Club for four days.
