Ange Postecoglou's tenure at Al-Nassr has hit early turbulence after the Saudi club was denied entry into Portugal for a planned pre-season training camp, according to Saudi sources. The former Celtic manager, who took charge earlier this month, has faced a series of setbacks including a cancelled domestic camp and reports of a financial crisis at the club.
Portugal Trip Blocked at Airport
Al-Nassr's travelling contingent were reportedly told at the airport that they could not board a flight to Lisbon due to lack of permission. The club had quickly arranged the Portugal trip after shelving a previous camp in Abha, where facilities and equipment were deemed substandard. Al-Jazeera reports that club bosses are confident of overcoming the hurdle and rescheduling the flight.
Financial Woes and Unpaid Wages
Despite being owned by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, Al-Nassr is reportedly in financial crisis. Sources claim players were not paid their full salaries in June, and the club has been unable to make new signings. Star midfielder Marcelo Brozovic left on a free transfer, while Colombia international Jhon Duran is nearing a loan move to Benfica.
Postecoglou's Return to Management
Postecoglou returned to management after being sacked by Nottingham Forest last October. He now teams up with ageing superstar Cristiano Ronaldo and has been tentatively linked with a move for Celtic captain Callum McGregor. However, his early days have been marred by off-field chaos.
