England Receives Fresh Injury Boost Ahead of World Cup Clash with Panama
England Injury Boost Before Panama World Cup Match

England have received a timely injury boost ahead of their final World Cup group-stage match against Panama in New Jersey on Saturday. The Three Lions started their tournament impressively with a 4-2 victory over Croatia, the 2018 runners-up and 2022 semi-finalists. However, Thomas Tuchel's side struggled in their second group game against Ghana, managing only a goalless draw despite dominating possession.

Declan Rice Fit to Start

After the draw with Ghana, there were concerns over Declan Rice after the Arsenal midfielder was seen walking with heavy strapping on his left calf and a noticeable limp. Rice played the full 90 minutes in Boston, having been substituted midway through the second half against Croatia due to managing various niggles from a long club campaign. However, according to The Sun, Rice remains fit to start against Panama. Tuchel may still choose to rest him, with Kobbie Mainoo potentially making his tournament debut.

Reece James Unlikely to Be Risked

Not all news is positive, as Reece James has reportedly complained of a tight hamstring and is unlikely to be risked given his injury history. Ezri Konsa, Djed Spence, and Jarell Quansah could deputise at right-back for the Chelsea captain.

Bukayo Saka Pushing for First Start

Bukayo Saka is pushing for his first start of the tournament as he recovers from Achilles problems sustained at the end of the season. Tuchel had earmarked the Panama game for Saka's start, saying: 'He seems to be more and more ready, and will hopefully push, and then we will see what is coming. He's getting there, and there's more and more training sessions, so he needs to have more sessions now. Two sessions to be ready for Panama. It's not only about Bukayo, but it was good he got some minutes under his belt. Hopefully, there is no reaction and he is good to go.'

Patrick Vieira Urges Saka Start

Former Arsenal midfielder Patrick Vieira urged Tuchel to start Saka over Noni Madueke after the Ghana draw. 'If England play teams like this again there will be a different approach and maybe different players on the field. When Bukayo Saka was on the field at the end he brought something different to Noni Madueke. But overall I'm not worried about England's performance,' Vieira said on The Rest is Football.
