Tuchel's Criticism Sparks Bellingham's Response
After the match, Tuchel told ITV: 'We made life very, very difficult for ourselves. The result is fantastic, we're in the last four, it's amazing, but not happy with the performance in every sense. We were lucky today.' When interviewer Gabriel Clarke relayed this comment to Bellingham, the midfielder shrugged and retorted: 'Yeah, well, whatever, whatever. It's difficult out there. It's difficult. It's a tough shift. All the players have put in a very tough shirt. My thoughts and appreciations go to the players who were out there who put in a great shift yet again.'
Tuchel Unhappy with Line of Questioning
Tuchel also expressed displeasure with Clarke's questions, particularly when asked whether England had a mentality problem. The German manager responded: 'Metality? Mentality? This is pure mentality. How can you ask about mentality? It's not about mentality.' He reiterated his frustration with the team's performance, citing 'lots of technical mistakes' and a lack of repetition in their play.
Despite the tension, England's victory books their spot in the semi-finals, where they will face a yet-to-be-determined opponent. Bellingham's brace proved decisive in a match that required extra time to separate the sides.
