Adam Ramsey-Peaty settled for a bronze medal in the 50m breaststroke final at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, with his pregnant wife Holly Ramsay-Peaty on hand to console him after another podium finish short of gold.
Holly was seen kissing her husband after the race, as the couple embraced. Both were smiling, seemingly happy despite the result. Holly beamed as Adam caressed her expanding baby bump.
Missed Gold Again
This bronze mirrored his performance in the 100m breaststroke earlier in the Games. The 31-year-old revealed that the past few years had been challenging, both in sport and beyond, but stated that his focus is now on the future and their expected child.
Speaking to TNT Sports, he acknowledged enduring a difficult two years, saying circumstances had been "pretty tough to get that speed back" and that he will "have to learn this experience as a whole really."
Pride and Perspective
Adam told journalists: "I think for me just getting back to the enjoyment of racing. I've really enjoyed tonight. I made a few errors but you can train the hardest in the world and you can work the hardest in the world but it doesn't really matter unless you're race polished and I'm not."
He added: "I'm not going to be too hard on myself because I'm incredibly proud of the journey I've been on my whole career. Even in this room, 12 years ago I'm a different man, well, I wasn't even a man then."
He noted that he now has a nearly six-year-old and a daughter on the way in December, saying "it's all in perspective and sometimes I think the hard times are more important than the good."
"It took a lot of courage to get back into the sport, so we should be happy with everything we get, but then that contradicts the athlete inside me and what I work for. I just think I deserve more. I know sport isn't about what you deserve or even what you work for - it's who gets it on the day. I just know I'm a better athlete than that. It's very disappointing."
