Danika Mason's Fiancé Liam Knight Lands Newcastle Footy Lifeline
Liam Knight's Newcastle Footy Deal Keeps Couple Together

Liam Knight Secures Newcastle Footy Role Amidst Personal Milestones

Liam Knight, the fiancé of Channel Nine presenter Danika Mason, has been thrown a sporting lifeline with a rumoured signing to a local Newcastle football team. This development means the couple no longer faces the prospect of a long-distance separation, as Knight can now commute from Mason's Maroubra townhouse in Sydney.

From Super League to Local Competition

Knight, a 31-year-old forward, was previously playing for Hull KR in the England Super League, while Mason worked in Australia for Channel Nine. Their engagement in October last year, during a holiday in Italy, was followed by Knight's release from his contract in February on compassionate grounds, allowing his return to Australia.

According to a News Corp report, Knight has now signed with the Cessnock Goannas, competing in the Denton Engineering Cup, a 10-team local Newcastle competition. This move positions him as arguably the biggest name in the side, which suffered a heavy 12-40 loss in its opening round against South Newcastle.

Career Prospects and Past Challenges

Despite joining a local club, Knight remains a potential candidate for a start with an NRL team. His last stint in first-grade football saw him play only seven matches for the Bulldogs, hampered by injuries. However, from 2019 to 2023, he proved his value as a forward, racking up 66 matches with South Sydney Rabbitohs.

Knight made his NRL debut with the Manly Sea Eagles in 2016, showcasing his talent early in his career. His return to Australia coincides with Mason moving past a highly publicised incident where she slurred her words during a live cross from the Winter Olympics in Turin, sparking social media uproar.

Mason's Public Apology and Moving Forward

In response to the controversy, Mason issued an on-air apology, taking full responsibility for her actions. She expressed embarrassment but thanked supporters for their outreach. Today show hosts Karl Stefanovic and Jayne Azzopardi suggested cold weather might have affected her speech, but Mason's candid admission won praise from viewers.

This personal and professional alignment for Knight and Mason marks a positive turn, as they navigate their careers and relationship closer to home. The Cessnock Goannas have been contacted for comment on Knight's signing, highlighting the local interest in his addition to the team.
