At least four people were killed and a dozen wounded in one of Ukraine's largest drone strikes on Russian territory, including the Moscow region, Russian authorities said on Sunday. The attack involved nearly 600 drones across 14 regions, as well as Crimea and the Black and Azov Seas.
Three deaths were reported in the Moscow region and one in Belgorod. Russian air defences shot down 556 drones overnight and neutralised 30 more after dawn. Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed the strikes, stating they were retaliation for a deadly three-day Russian attack on Ukraine last week that killed over 20 people.
Moscow regional governor Andrei Vorobyov said a woman was killed in Khimki when a home was hit, and two men died in Pogorelki after drone debris fell on a construction site. India's embassy confirmed one of its nationals was among the dead. In Moscow, air defences intercepted over 80 drones, with 12 wounded and minor damage from debris.
Ukraine's SBU security service said the strikes hit an oil refinery and two pumping stations near Moscow, aiming to reduce Russia's ability to continue the war. Russia's Sheremetyevo Airport reported drone debris within its perimeter but no damage. The attack followed a three-day truce that both sides accused the other of violating.
