Gerwyn Price 'can't be bothered' with darts amid farm renovation

Gerwyn Price has revealed that he 'can't be bothered' with darts at the moment, citing distractions from renovating a farm he recently purchased. The 2021 world champion withdrew from the World Cup of Darts last month and has been struggling with mental fatigue and personal issues.

Personal Distractions Affect Performance

The Caerphilly thrower, known as 'The Iceman', bought a farm in Treharris in early 2026 and plans to move there with his family. However, the ongoing renovation work has left him lacking focus on the oche. Speaking after a 6-4 first-round win against Brayden Hall at the US Darts Masters in New York, Price said: 'I just couldn't be arsed to be up there. I just had a funny feeling. I'd rather be in the house.'

Price admitted that his mental state has been poor for the past couple of months. 'The last couple of months, I just haven't been mentally with it and have just been going through the motions,' he added.

Health Issues and Tournament Withdrawal

In May, Price acknowledged he was not in a great place health-wise after a Premier League defeat to fellow Welshman Jonny Clayton. Days later, he withdrew from the World Cup of Darts, clarifying that his decision was not solely due to health problems. Now, he has opened up about the challenges he faces away from the sport.

Price said: 'I've got things going on at home that are distracting me a little bit. So as soon as things go to plan there and things start moving… Sometimes it's a good distraction. It can keep you away from darts a little bit. But I've got too much going on at home and too many distractions.'

Looking Ahead to the Matchplay

With the Matchplay tournament less than a month away, Price admitted that his distractions will likely persist. 'The Matchplay is what, three or four weeks away? The planning is only just going in, and it's a little bit frustrating. My mind's not where it needs to be,' he said.

Despite his struggles, Price remains ambitious. 'I need to try and sort my focus a little bit more with darts. Because I want to win ranking events, I want to win the Matchplay, I want to win the Grand Prix, the Grand Slam, the World Championship,' he stated.
