Thomas Tuchel will officially announce his 26-man England squad for the World Cup on Friday morning, with the makeup of the squad already becoming clear after several difficult phone calls. The Football Association will stream a live show from Wembley on its England app from 9.45am BST, featuring former internationals Theo Walcott and Daniel Sturridge, before Tuchel gives an interview.
Harry Maguire revealed on Thursday that he was 'shocked and gutted' to be excluded, after Tuchel had indicated other defenders were ahead of him. The manager named Ezri Konsa, Marc Guéhi, John Stones and Trevoh Chalobah as preferred options, while Dan Burn and Jarell Quansah are also likely to be included.
Fitness concerns surround Stones, who has made only four appearances for Manchester City since December, and right-back Reece James, who returned from a hamstring injury only recently. Levi Colwill has impressed since returning from an ACL injury in May but may be considered a risk. Tino Livramento is expected to be included despite a thigh problem, while Ben White is definitely out injured.
Jordan Pickford is the undisputed No 1, with Dean Henderson and James Trafford as back-ups. Ivan Toney is expected to be the wildcard inclusion. Tuchel believes he has the right blend to put a second star on the England shirt.
