Amelia Kerr's Record-Breaking 179* Seals Historic New Zealand Victory
Amelia Kerr delivered a stunning unbeaten century to propel New Zealand to a historic two-wicket triumph over South Africa in Wellington, achieving the highest successful run chase in women's one-day international history.
Kerr's Masterclass in Record Run Chase
Facing a daunting target of 347, New Zealand found themselves at 21 for one before Kerr took centre stage. The leg-spinning all-rounder blazed an extraordinary 179 not out from just 139 deliveries, featuring 23 boundaries and one maximum, to steer her team to 350 for eight with two balls remaining.
This remarkable performance eclipsed the previous women's ODI chase record of 338, set by India against Australia during the 2025 World Cup semi-finals.
South Africa's Formidable First Innings
South Africa had posted a formidable 346 for six in the second match of the ODI series, thanks to significant contributions from Anneke Bosch's rapid 91, alongside half-centuries by captain Laura Wolvaardt and Chloe Tryon.
New Zealand's response was bolstered by Izzy Gaze's valuable 68, providing crucial support to Kerr's dominant innings that ultimately secured the victory.
Kerr Reflects on Career-Best Knock
Despite having scored a higher individual total of 232 not out against Ireland in 2018, Kerr rated this innings as her finest achievement. "I was really calm out there and just was so focused on simplifying it to each over," she explained after levelling the three-match series.
"When I did hit the winning runs, I was actually pretty fizzed. It shows how much it means to me," Kerr added. "To get a big hundred like that in a big chase against a quality side is definitely number one."
The victory not only showcased Kerr's exceptional batting prowess but also highlighted New Zealand's resilience in pursuing a record-breaking target against a strong South African bowling attack.
