Racehorses will take centre stage in Liverpool on August 22 as National Racehorse Week returns for its sixth year, giving members of the public the chance to meet the sport's equine stars in the heart of the city.
Organised by Great British Racing, the event will transform Thomas Steers Way into an "urban racing yard", offering visitors an opportunity to get up close with racehorses and learn more about life behind the scenes of British horseracing. The event marks the opening day of National Racehorse Week, which runs from August 22 to 31.
Free interactive experiences
The free event will feature a range of interactive experiences. Visitors will be able to meet racehorses, try their hand at riding like a jockey with guidance from Racing to School and some of Britain's best-known jockeys, watch live farrier and physiotherapy demonstrations, and discover the specialist equipment used to care for racehorses throughout their careers.
The Liverpool event follows the success of a similar pop-up racing yard held in Chester during National Racehorse Week 2025. Similar experiences will also be staged in London on August 26 and Portsmouth on August 29.
Nationwide celebration
National Racehorse Week is a nationwide celebration of the Thoroughbred racehorse and provides the public with an opportunity to visit racing yards, studs and racehorse retraining centres across England, Scotland and Wales.
This year's programme includes more than 15,500 free places at 96 venues, allowing visitors to see racehorses in their stables, exercising on the gallops and taking part in their daily routines.
Since launching in 2021, National Racehorse Week has hosted thousands of visitors, providing 65,000 free places to tour racing establishments and hosting 190 community events, connecting more than 10,000 additional people with the racing industry.

In other sporting news for Liverpool ONE, a giant 1,000-square metre portrait of local golfing star Tommy Fleetwood was unveiled in Liverpool city centre this month to mark the start of The Open Championship which took place from July 16 to July 19, 2026. The 40m x 25m painting appears on the grass at Chavasse Park at Liverpool ONE. The image of Southport-born Fleetwood took three people two days to create using special grass pitch-marking paint and was unveiled at lunchtime on Friday (July 10), ahead of the start of the championship.
