MotoGP Star Bezzecchi Banned After Slapping Marshal

Marco Bezzecchi, the MotoGP world championship leader, has been suspended from Sunday's Czech Grand Prix following an altercation with a marshal during the sprint race. The incident occurred after the Italian rider crashed into the gravel trap at Turn 3 in Brno with just two laps remaining.

Incident Details

Bezzecchi rushed over to his fallen Aprilia as marshals attempted to lift the bike. Video footage shows him pushing one marshal and then appearing to slap the same marshal across the face. He lashed out twice before walking away as his bike was recovered. The world championship leader's advantage over teammate Jorge Martin has been reduced to 15 points, and he could lose more points due to the suspension.

Fan Reactions and Calls for Harsher Penalty

MotoGP fans have condemned Bezzecchi's actions, demanding a severe punishment. One social media user stated: "This is not a race ban, this should be expulsion from MotoGP this year. What a crazy fool! Slap him with the biggest penalty ever." Another fan emphasized the critical role of marshals: "Without marshals motorsport cannot happen. They put their lives at risk for no pay. What a c***."

A third user argued: "In any other sport the penalty would be much harsher. A one race ban is a slap on the wrist, and sends the wrong message to everyone involved." Others agreed, with one calling for a three-race ban: "You cannot slap a marshal, it doesn't matter how 'pumped' you are. They should've made an example with this incident."

Further Outcry

Additional social media users expressed outrage. One wrote: "No one should watch MotoGP after this … just a race ban. These people (marshals) sacrifice their time and often risk their lives for ZERO PAY to be disrespected and the punishment is just a single race ban? Guy needs to be banned for the season AT LEAST!" Another user commented: "Gets worse from every new angle. This is race ban territory."

Bezzecchi's suspension has sparked widespread debate about the adequacy of MotoGP's disciplinary measures, with many calling for stricter penalties to protect marshals who volunteer their time.
