Motherwell powered past HB in the Europa Conference League second qualifying round, winning 3-0 on the night to secure a 5-0 aggregate victory in the Faroe Islands. The result gives new manager Alfred Johansson a perfect start to his tenure.
Fadinger fires from the spot again
HB pushed for an early goal but Motherwell stood firm. Austrian midfielder Lukas Fadinger made a brave block and later conceded a slack pass that gave Heini Sorenson a chance, saved by Alex Paulsen. The breakthrough came in the 25th minute when Willy Vogts was clipped by Asi Dam in the box. Fadinger stepped up and powered his penalty past the keeper for his second goal in two games against HB.
Charles-Cook finally finds his sizzle
Regan Charles-Cook replaced Ewan Smith in the only change from the first leg. He was a constant threat, missing two early chances – one blocked by Bjarti Mørk at 0-0 and another when Mørk raced out to deny him. But in the 36th minute he picked the ball up on the left, beat his man, cut inside and beat Mørk at his near post to make it 2-0.
Williams becomes an early hero
Five minutes into the second half, Dylan Williams scored his first Motherwell goal. Ibrahim Said's dribble deflected back to him, and he laid it off to the incoming Williams on the right, who swept a low drive under Mørk. It was only Williams's second outing for the club after joining from Burton Albion just before the first leg.
Johansson proves his voice
Even with the tie won, Johansson remained vocal on the sideline, driving his side forward. He gave academy graduates minutes and brought on top scorer Tawanda Maswanhise, who wore a protective mask as he returned from injury. Motherwell saw out the game comfortably.
Motherwell end HB's six-year home streak
HB had not lost a home European match in six years, with Brondby, Hajduk Split and Derry City all drawing there, and Maccabi Haifa, Newtown and Buducnost Podgorica losing. Motherwell's class of 2026 ended that run after a 2-0 win at Fir Park in the first leg. The Steelmen now face HJK in the next round, with a Premiership opener against Hibs first.
