Dominic West has opened up about getting older in a candid new interview, admitting he is "nearly f***ing 60, which is properly old."
Speaking to the Radio Times, the 56-year-old star addressed his age ahead of his turn in Sky Atlantic's new legal drama War. He told the outlet: "I'm nearly f***ing 60, which is properly old... I keep meeting people who have got proper, grown-up jobs and are responsible, and I'm still doing what I was doing when I was eight."
A career spanning decades
The Sheffield-born star's extensive career dates back to the early 90s, with HBO's seminal TV classic The Wire propelling him into the spotlight. Since then, he has starred in a host of TV projects, including The Affair, Netflix's The Crown, BBC's SAS Rogue Heroes, Sky's Brassic, and Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale.
He is now set to star as tech mogul Morgan Henderson in Sky's legal drama War, opposite Sienna Miller as his international film star wife Carla Duval. West and Miller will play exes locked in a battle of wills as they begin divorce proceedings.
Reuniting with George Kay
Speaking in a separate interview about starring in War, West said he was keen to reunite with creator George Kay, who is also behind Netflix's heist hit Lupin. West previously worked with Abi Morgan on BBC's The Hour, who is behind the other divorce drama The Split.
West was "very excited" to work with Kay again and hailed him a "brilliant television writer". However, he admitted some reservations about his character: "I was a bit nervous and a little reticent about playing a billionaire getting divorced, but actually it works really well, and I really enjoyed it."
Complex characters and future roles
Reflecting on what drew him to the character, West explained: "The older I get, the less interested I am in playing villains. I kind of like the idea of playing a guy who's trying to do the right thing. The show avoids classic heroes and villains. Everyone is fighting for what they believe is right, which makes the conflict feel much more complex."
Despite his comments on age, West has a raft of roles in the pipeline, including Custom of the Country, Wind of Change, The Man Who Stole Portugal, and Monstrous Beauty, according to IMDb.
Meanwhile, anthology series War has already been commissioned for a second outing, which will continue to follow the two law firms from the first. Season two is already in production and will star Marisa Tomei, Kelly Macdonald, and David Harewood. Further cast includes Claire Skinner, Omari Douglas, Kadiff Kirwan, Douglas Booth, and Charles Edwards. The second outing will take on a high-stakes defamation battle.
War launches on Sky Atlantic on October 2.
