Italy's Nicol Delago claimed her first World Cup downhill victory on home snow in Tarvisio on Saturday, while American Lindsey Vonn secured her fifth podium in five races this season.
Delago, starting with bib number three, clocked a time of one minute 46.28 seconds in foggy conditions. Her previous best was third place in Saalbach in March 2024.
Germany's Kira Weidle-Winkelmann finished second, 0.20 seconds behind, while Vonn took third, a further 0.06 seconds adrift. The Di Prampero piste was shrouded in thick fog on the middle section.
Vonn, preparing for an Olympic comeback at the Milano Cortina Games at age 41, extended her lead in the downhill standings to 144 points over Germany's Emma Aicher. The American has two wins, a second and two thirds from five downhills this season.
Delago's younger sister Nadia, Olympic downhill bronze medallist in 2022, finished 10th. Nicol said she was nervous but loved the course, having been fastest in Friday's training.
Vonn, who won a World Cup super-G in Tarvisio in 2011, said she did not recall the mountain but remembered the fans and atmosphere. Despite a mistake in the soft snow and poor visibility, she was pleased with her consistency. One more downhill remains before the Games, in Crans-Montana on 30 January.
