British Girl, Four, Drowns in Hotel Pool in Lanzarote

A four-year-old British girl has died after drowning in a hotel swimming pool in Lanzarote, Spain. Emergency services were called to the hotel in the resort of Playa Blanca at around 1:30pm yesterday, but despite attempts to revive her, she passed away at the scene.

The Civil Guard is leading an investigation into the incident under the coordination of an investigating judge. A spokesman for the Canary Islands Government’s Emergency and Security Coordination Centre said that an alert was received reporting that a young girl showing signs of drowning had been pulled from the pool and required medical assistance.

The 112 service mobilised emergency resources, including ambulances, police, and a helicopter. A coordinating nurse confirmed during a call with the lifeguard that the girl had gone into cardiac arrest and gave instructions to begin resuscitation manoeuvres.

The tragedy comes days after another British four-year-old boy died after falling into a swimming pool at a holiday home near the Costa del Sol. Police and paramedics were called to the rural home, and a helicopter was also mobilised. Periana Council expressed its deepest condolences to the boy's family, stating, 'Today is a deeply sad day for our town.'
