Olympic cycling champions Laura and Jason Kenny have announced the birth of their first child, a son named Albert Louie Kenny. Laura Kenny, a four-time Olympic gold medallist, shared the news on Instagram, posting a photo of the newborn with his parents.
Albert Louie Kenny was born late on Wednesday, 23 August, weighing 8lb 12.5oz, a week after his due date. In her post, Laura Kenny wrote: 'Welcome to the world little Albert Louie Kenny. You kept us waiting a week but it was all worth it.'
Laura Kenny, 25, from Cheshunt, Hertfordshire, won team pursuit and omnium gold at both the London 2012 and Rio 2016 Olympic Games. She has expressed her intention to compete at the Tokyo 2020 Games but has indicated she will not rush her return to the sport.
Jason Kenny, a six-time Olympic gold medallist, holds the record for the most Olympic titles by a British athlete, alongside Sir Chris Hoy. The couple, who began their relationship during the build-up to the London 2012 Games, married in Cheshire in September last year.
Fellow cyclist Dani King tweeted her congratulations, saying she 'cannot wait to meet him', while Paralympic cyclist Dame Sarah Storey, who is expecting her second child, described the news as 'lovely'.
