A popular Canadian couple who ran a YouTube channel about travel and off-roading have died in a crash while driving in the mountains of British Columbia. Stacey Tourout and Matthew Yeomans, known as the Toyota World Runners, died on August 7 near Trout Lake in the West Kootenay region.
Kaslo Search and Rescue (SAR) responded to the incident at around 7.30pm after receiving accurate information about the couple's location. Mark Jennings-Bates, a manager with Kaslo SAR, said the crash occurred on a forestry road in the mountains, and the precise coordinates allowed teams to reach them efficiently.
When emergency services arrived, one of the pair was found dead at the scene, while the other died later in hospital from injuries sustained in the crash. The cause is believed to be a loss of control while crossing rough terrain, though the exact reason is not yet known.
SAR teams have warned of the dangers of off-road travel, noting that emergency response times are much longer in remote areas. Jennings-Bates advised using safety devices built into vehicles, even when not on a highway.
The couple's YouTube channel, Toyota World Runners, featured videos of their campervan refits and adventures through North and South America. They had amassed hundreds of thousands of followers. A family member, Colleen's mother, posted a tribute on social media, saying: 'They are together forever, as we knew they would always be.' Fellow creators also paid tribute, calling the loss 'huge for our off-road community'.
