The Tartan Army in Boston are buzzing ahead of Scotland's crucial clash against Morocco at Gillette Stadium. Supporters are predicting a historic result that could see the team progress through the group stage of a major competition for the first time.
Fans Confident of Progress
A point against Group C rivals Morocco will be enough to secure progression, and the optimism among fans is palpable. Peter Fife Jnr, joined by his wife Karen and father Peter Snr, believes the team has the quality to deliver. "I'll take a draw. I know this team will get us through the group," he said. His father, Peter Snr, is more hopeful: "We're going to win 1-0."
Party Atmosphere in Boston
Hundreds of fans gathered early on Friday in Boston's city centre, enjoying lagers and soaking in the electric atmosphere. Gordon Cameron, a retired lawyer from Oban, said: "It's been such an amazing trip. I've met so many friends from all over Scotland. The place is bouncing." He jokingly added: "Don't tell my girlfriend, but I'm not coming home."
Boat Party Kicks Off Celebrations
Over 300 fans started the party on Thursday night with a booze cruise at Rowes Wharf. Valarie Angus, 68, said: "The atmosphere has been absolutely fantastic. The Boston people could not be more friendly. We've had an absolute ball." Liam Neil, 36, predicted: "John McGinn is going to score again, and that will be enough to get Scotland through."
Mixed Predictions Among Supporters
While many are hopeful, some fans are more cautious. Mark Robinson, 48, from Aberdeen, said: "I think we'll get beat, but if we can keep the score down, that could be enough." Alan Davidson added: "We'll get a draw against Brazil to get us through." Others, like Abby Carr, are boldly predicting a 5-0 victory for Scotland.
The official fan zone at city hall reopened on Friday after adverse weather forced its closure on Thursday. Thousands of Moroccan fans have also arrived, adding to the vibrant atmosphere in Boston.
