Legendary Hollywood actress and singer Abbe Lane has passed away from natural causes at the age of 93. Though her death occurred on Saturday, April 25, it has only now been confirmed and announced publicly by her son, Curb Your Enthusiasm producer Steven Leff, who broke the news to industry publication The Hollywood Reporter.
Career Highlights
Starting her career as a youngster, she became a massive star during the 1960s and 1970s before later appearing in guest spots on enormously popular TV programmes including Hart To Hart, Burke's Law, F Troop, The Flying Nun, The Brady Bunch, Love American Style and Amazing Stories. She was spotted at 16 by big band leader Xavier Cugat while performing in a Broadway production.
He recruited her to perform vocals for his Latin-influenced orchestra during a European tour. Her fame across the continent soared following the tour, and she appeared in over 20 Italian films throughout the mid-1960s while maintaining her singing and recording career.
Personal Life and Later Work
She and Xavier wed in 1952, when she was 19 and he was 52. She became his fourth spouse. They separated 12 years later and she subsequently revealed he had psychologically mistreated her, reports the Express.
Four decades later in 1992, she wrote a semi-autobiographical novel entitled But Where Is Love?, which told the story of a teenage girl trapped in an unhappy marriage to a significantly older man. Upon returning to the USA, her celebrity status soared as she became a Las Vegas headliner, making frequent appearances on television programmes including The Ed Sullivan Show, The Tonight Show, The Red Skelton Show, The Milton Berle Show, The Hollywood Palace and The Dean Martin Show.
Like all stars of that period, she was also a familiar face on popular game shows, featuring on Password, The Match Game, To Tell The Truth and What's My Line. She went on to become a regular fixture on some of television's biggest programmes, including Hart to Hart where she starred alongside Robert Wagner and Stephanie Powers.
Iconic Film Role
One of her most unforgettable performances came on the silver screen in the troubled 1983 film adaptation The Twilight Zone: The Movie. She played the air hostess in a reimagined version of the classic television episode Nightmare at 20,000 Feet, which featured John Lithgow in the gremlin-spotting role originally made famous by William Shatner.

Tributes poured in as devastated fans received the news. Writing on Facebook, one shared a photograph and wrote: "My first celebrity photo was with Joan Rivers and Abbe Lane at the old Farmers Market in LA from 1977. Abbe Lane died today at age 93. RIP."
Another added: "I think we all love Abbe as Beebe Gallini on the Brady Bunch. RIP." A third said: "So sorry to hear she passed. So pretty and she had a lovely way about her!" Meanwhile a fourth shared: "What a legacy, inspiring story indeed RIP Abby Lane!"
