Lewis Hamilton has suggested he does not plan to race in Formula 1 beyond the age of 40, while also addressing whether he regrets never driving for Ferrari. The seven-time world champion, who turns 36 this year, is in the twilight of his career and recently signed a one-year contract extension with Mercedes.
When asked if he would follow drivers like Kimi Raikkonen, who is still racing at 41, Hamilton told AS: 'I think not. I don't think I'm going to drive forever, even though this was the biggest ride of my life.' He added that he has 'five years left' for other interests and does not expect to continue racing beyond that, though he admitted 'you never say never.'
On the topic of Ferrari, Hamilton dismissed any regrets about not joining the Italian team. 'I make mistakes and see what I could have done differently, but I don't think if I could have done something in one place or another,' he said. He contrasted his move to Mercedes, which was then a mid-field team, with joining a top team like Ferrari, where victories would have 'a lower meaning.'
