Lewis Hamilton was penalised for the second time during the Hungarian Grand Prix weekend after being caught speeding in the pit lane on Sunday. The penalty came at a crucial moment as Hamilton was chasing Kimi Antonelli for a podium position.
Earlier grid drop
Hamilton had already served a three-place grid drop for impeding Oscar Piastri during qualifying. The latest penalty occurred when a virtual safety car was deployed after Piastri stopped with a gearbox issue.
Race impact
Antonelli had already pitted and remained on hard tyres, while Ferrari opted to bring in both its cars for fresh soft tyres in anticipation of a late push. Hamilton's pit lane speeding infraction effectively ended his chance of fighting for the podium.
