Manchester City are set to kick off their pre-season campaign under new head coach Enzo Maresca, with several first-team stars and academy talents expected to report for training on Monday, July 20. Among those likely to attend are Jack Grealish, Phil Foden, and a host of promising youngsters.
Key Players Returning Early
According to FIFPro guidelines, City typically grant players at least four weeks off after a major tournament. As a result, many squad members who participated in the 2026 World Cup will not be available for the first day of pre-season. However, several high-profile names who were not involved in the tournament will be present. These include Gianluigi Donnarumma, Rico Lewis, Jack Grealish, Kalvin Phillips, Phil Foden, Nico Gonzalez, and Savinho.
Youngsters to Watch
Among the academy players hoping to catch Maresca's eye is Jeremy Monga, who recently completed a high-profile move from Leicester City. Other notable youth prospects include Ryan McAidoo, Reigan Heskey, Harrison Miles, and Teddie Lamb, all of whom were part of the Under-18s side that won the FA Youth Cup last season. These players will be eager to showcase their abilities during the pre-season fixtures.
Pre-Season Tour and Fixtures
City's 2026 pre-season schedule includes a tour of Asia. They will face Inter Milan on Saturday, August 1, followed by a match against a K-League XI on Wednesday, August 5. The tour concludes with a friendly against Atletico Madrid on Sunday, August 9. Following the tour, City will face Arsenal in the Community Shield on Sunday, August 16, before the Premier League season begins the following week.
