Hollyoaks actress Rebecca Ryan, who plays Beth Keane on the Channel 4 soap, has revealed that Jonah Keane's controversial storyline will escalate with "twists and turns" and potentially "no way out" for the character.
Rebecca Ryan, who plays Jonah's wife Beth Keane, teased that things would go beyond the point of return. The Mirror was first to confirm Jonah's shocking Factitious Disorder Imposed on Another (FDIA) storyline earlier this year. Since then, onscreen we have seen Jonah drugging his young son Caleb and making him ill, to stop him leaving the village.
Jonah's storyline takes a different path
Speaking exclusively to The Mirror, Rebecca confirmed that the storyline will "take a different path" to what is on screen at the moment, with "twists and turns". She added that there could be "no way out for Jonah", so is he finally exposed?
Rebecca told us: "The Jonah storyline is really going to heat up, and it's really going to take on like a different path. There's going to be a lot of twists and turns in it, actually, because you think there's no way out for Jonah, and that everything's going to come crashing down, but there's twists and turns in it."
"He's also digging himself into a deeper, deeper hole with him trying to get out of everything. We've got a lot of that coming up, and that's going to be a really exciting storyline."
Beth's denial and potential forgiveness
Rebecca went on: "There's bits where you think, 'Oh, there's no way out for him.' Like, he's going to have to come clean, because there's nothing he can do now. And then he brings something else to the table, and you're like, 'What?' And he's digging himself in deeper, and you think, 'How is he going to get out of this?'."
Rebecca said that when the truth does come out, she's not sure if Beth can forgive her husband. She said: "I think she will find it really hard because I think to Beth, Jonah is her everything. He's her hero, he's the one that fixes everything. She goes out and causes trouble, and she fights with everyone, and Jonah's like her calm, and it's her safe space."
"I think she'll find it really hard to process or to even believe that he has done anything. I think she'll be in denial for a bit, because she will not want to think that Jonah has done anything wrong." She added: "It's really hard because I think she'd want to help him. I think she would want to see the best in him, and I think she'll want to save him."
More drama for Beth and Cindy
Rebecca also teased more drama ahead for Beth and Cindy Cunningham, over Maddox's parentage. She said: "Beth and Cindy are very alike in a way. They're very feisty and they both want to win, and they both want to be right. I quite enjoy that. I quite enjoy the back and forth with Beth and Cindy."
"I think that is quite fun. They're like sisters, so they do have their moments where they're like, 'Oh actually, we are friends.' But they have their little tit for tat. I'd like to see more nice scenes between them and have a little sort of a truce moment. They'll always get back to bickering and being Beth and Cindy. But I do love that sort of camaraderie between the two."
