Grand Prix 50p Coin on Sale for Up to £2,420

The Royal Mint has officially released a new 50p coin to mark 100 years of Grand Prix racing in Britain, with prices ranging from £15 to £2,420. This is the first time motorsport has been featured on an official United Kingdom coin.

Design and Collaboration

Designed in collaboration with London-based agency Interstate, the coin's reverse side illustrates the sport's evolution by showcasing a vintage 1926 racing car from the inaugural Brooklands race alongside a modern 2026 Formula 1 car. Officials at The Royal Mint expressed pride in celebrating this milestone, noting that the design reflects the journey from the early days at Brooklands to today's high-speed battles at Silverstone.

Historical Significance

Leadership at Brooklands Museum shared their excitement about the commemorative piece, highlighting that the 1926 race was a defining moment for international motor racing in the UK. The British Grand Prix has been held at Silverstone since 1948, and this coin serves as a physical tribute to the sport's rich history and legacy.
