Former child star Frankie Muniz has reassured fans he is unhurt after a dramatic crash during the NASCAR Truck Series race in Phoenix, Arizona, on Friday night. The 38-year-old actor-turned-racer was seen limping to an ambulance following a heavy impact on Lap 100 at the start of the final stage.
Muniz, who recently announced his full-time commitment to NASCAR driving, later told reporters: 'I'm okay, yeah. Unfortunate. I got a good opportunity to run with some guys, I made some passes.' He described the crash as a learning experience, saying he was pleased to work on overtaking techniques.
Explaining the incident, Muniz said: 'I just wanted to keep going, I wanted to keep running. But there was nowhere for me to go and I got hit from behind into the No. 42 and then the No. 42 got moved and the No. 18 was right there stopped and I went right into him.'
Despite the setback, Muniz remains focused on proving his competitive credentials in the Truck Series full-time next season with Reaume Brothers Racing. He praised team owner Josh Reaume as 'ultra motivated' and promised 'big improvements' in the off-season.
Looking ahead, Muniz will film in Charlotte on Monday before heading to Las Vegas for the F1 race, where he will drive a Mustang doing hot laps with celebrities. 'Otherwise, just gonna prepare with the team and be as focused and ready as we can for Daytona,' he added.
