Dacia Sandero Named UK's Best Value Car at Just £1,000

Motoring magazine Autocar has crowned the used Dacia Sandero as Britain's best-value car, with second-generation models available for around £1,000. The accolade comes as households look to cut costs amid the ongoing cost-of-living squeeze.

Autocar writer Alex Wolstenholme praised the practical and affordable Sandero, produced between 2013 and 2020, calling it a “breath of fresh air” compared to increasingly expensive and complex modern vehicles. He noted that a new Sandero now costs over £15,000, making the used version a bargain.

Wolstenholme also offered buying advice, warning against base-spec variants that lack features such as a radio, central locking, air conditioning and a car alarm. He recommended opting for the Ambiance or Laureate trims for a higher specification.

The Sandero has previously received praise from former Top Gear presenter James May. The announcement follows the Labour government's launch of a Fuel Finder programme to help drivers locate the cheapest fuel, which is expected to save motorists around £40 a year on average.
